M.Sc. Industrial Chemistry is a full time two-year (four semesters) programme of the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, University of Lucknow, Lucknow. This post-graduate course leading to the award of M. Sc. in Industrial Chemistry degree of University of Lucknow is highly professional and job oriented for career and opportunities in the industries based on chemicals and in their R & D facilities. OBJECTIVES: The course is designed so as to impart knowledge of cost effective, environment-friendly production, quality control and handling of synthetic and natural chemical products based on the sound knowledge of chemistry. The course is designed to train personnel to take the challenge of chemical industries from modern technologies and inculcate the enterpreurship among them. SPECIAL FEATURES OF THE PROGRAMME: · Broad based faculty drawn from higher educational and research institutions as well as from chemical industries. · Laboratory training in the handling, analyses and evaluation of chemical compounds. · Computer applications · Visit to industries · Seminar and library assignments · Project assignments and its presentation · Industrial Training These ordinances shall be applicable/ effective from the academic session 2007-08. 1. Number of Seats and Mode of Admission: (a) There shall be 30 seats for M. Sc. Industrial Chemistry programme. (b) The admissions shall be done on the basis of merit/ entrance test as per the University rule for admission to P.G. courses. (c) There will be no weightage of any P.G. Degree/ Diploma courses. (d) The existing reservation rules of University of Lucknow shall apply in admitting the students to this course. (e) Admission on migration of a candidate from any other University to this University shall not be permitted. 2. Eligibility for Admission: Candidates possessing three year B.Sc. degree with a minimum of 50 % marks (for general and OBC candidates) and 45% (for SC/ST candidates) and Chemistry as one of the subjects in all the three years shall be eligible for admission to M. Sc. Industrial Chemistry Course programme. 3. Duration of Course: (a) The Master of Science Industrial Chemistry programme shall be a two years (Four Semesters) full time programme. (b) The degree of M.Sc. Industrial Chemistry of the University of Lucknow, Lucknow shall be conferred to candidate who pursues the prescribed course of study for four semesters and passes the examinations as prescribed under the relevant ordinances. Semester-wise list of papers is enclosed herewith.
The Department of Chemistry has well qualified and experienced faculty engaged in high quality teaching & research in the fields of inorganic, organometellic, heterocyclic, medicinal, kinetic, surface and electrochemistry. Chemistry of natural products and radio-active elements, study of reaction kinetics of chemical reactions and quality control of sugar is perused as well. Supporting faculty is available from the Departments of Physics, Computer Science, Botany, Zoology, Bio-chemistry and Statistics. Besides, the advantage of expertise available in host of National Laboratories, universities/ Government organizations and industries Corporate Sectors situated in and around Lucknow will also be exploited as Guest faculty. Methods of teaching shall be a combination of lectures, seminars, power point presentations, educational tours, assignments, project work and computer labs. The payment for lectures, conveyance and TA/DA to guest faculty and distinguished experts shall be made as per existing rules of the University of Lucknow, Lucknow.
(i ) The Dean, Faculty of Science/ Course Director may condone a shortage up to 5% of the total number of lectures delivered or practical work done in each subject. (ii) The Vice Chancellor may condone further a shortage of attendance up to 10%. The candidate can avail the concession at most twice during the entire course. (c ) The candidate who fails to fulfill the requirements of the attendance as mentioned in 5 (a) and 5 (b) shall be required to re-register in the same semester with the new batch.
· Minimum working of 5 Hrs per day for 90 days (15 weeks) in each semester. · 240 Hrs Theory and 210 Hrs Practical in I, II and III semesters. · In Semester IV, besides 120 Hrs Theory, 90 Hrs will be devoted for preparation and presentation of a seminar. · Industrial Training and preparation and presentation of project work (240 Hrs) will be essential part of semester IV.
1. There shall be examination at the end of each semester as per scheme of examination and each student shall have to appear in all papers prescribed in the syllabi. 2. Each course assessment from semester – I to semester – III will be divided into as follows:
(i) Written examination comprising four theory papers -75 marks each (Total 300 marks)
(ii) Practical examination 150 marks
(iii) Semester IV will be divided in to the following parts:
(a) Written examination comprising two theory paper 75 marks each (b) Seminar Presentation 100 marks © Industrial Training & Project Work 200 marks
Total 450 Marks
SCHEME OF EXAMINATION
Seminar Presentation: Each candidate has to present a seminar on a topic to be decided by the concerned student in consultation with the faculty and (or) coordinator/director of the course. A board comprising of internal and external examiners should evaluate it. Industrial Training and Project Work: The candidates will be required to undergo training in a specific industry / R & D Organizations and will have to submit project report followed by its presentation and viva-voce. 3. Each paper shall have a compulsory question which shall cover the entire syllabus. There will be eight more questions and the candidate shall be required to answer four questions out of these eight questions. All questions will carry equal marks. 4. A candidate shall be declared to have passed a semester examination if he/she secures not less than 36% marks in each theory paper and practical examination and 36 % marks in the aggregate. 5. The facility of back paper in a semester examination shall be available to the student as per the following rules: (i) The candidates are allowed to appear in only one of papers as back paper in a semester. (ii) The candidate clears all the papers of a semester but fails to clear the aggregate. (iii) The candidate clears the aggregate (i.e. 36%) but fails to clear up to one of the paper in a semester. Note: Any fraction exceeding half shall be counted as one, half or less than half shall be ignored. 6. The candidate of category 5(i) shall be promoted to the next semester for continuing course but shall be required to appear in up to one of the total number of papers of their choice. The candidate of category 5(iii) shall be promoted to the next semester for continuing course but will be required to appear in the subjects in which he/she has failed. 7. The candidate allowed to appear in back paper in the course shall be evaluated on the basis of marks allotted to semester-end examination. 8. The result of the candidate shall be declared on the basis of performance in the semester examination. 9. The final result of the candidate shall be declared on the basis of combined result of all semester examinations of the course. 10. The candidate shall be passed with honour (75% and above), first division (60%), second division (48%) and third division (36%) in the final examination same as for the other P.G. courses.
